What is a Chat Activity?
The Chat Activity is our AI feature that allows teachers to create custom chat assignments for their students. Kai will even generate a rubric for the activity and grade each students' chat conversation so you can better understand which students might need some more support.
Here's how to set up your first Chat Activity:
From the create button, choose "Chat Activity." Use this popup to designate your topic and grade level, and upload any files with important context.
Need help getting started? We've included templates like "Chat with a historical figure" or "Debate with AI on any topic." There's no shortage of possibilities you can come up with to help students engage creatively with your material!
Next, you'll be able to make any edits to the activity's general content, grading, and behavior to better suit your needs, and designate which class you want to assign the activity to if you haven't already. You can also assign a due date and set time and submission limits.
In the "Behavior" section, you can change how the AI will respond to students and can add rules to ensure that students stay on track.
On the right, preview the activity to see how it will work from the student's side.
Congrats! You've made your first Chat Activity! The next section will detail how to track student progress on the assignment.
How can I track Student Progress/History?
Similar to our Progress Hub for flashcards, tests, and notes, you'll also be able to see progress analytics for your Chat Activity in the "Course Material" tab! What's more, Kai will give each student a grade based on the rubric that was set when you created the activity. See statistics such as average grade & average session time, and get feedback on strengths, areas of improvement, and suggestions for follow-ups.
Tip: Click on any student to see a full history of what chats they sent, and get feedback on each student's strengths and areas of improvement. If you toggle off auto-grade when creating the activity, you can grade students yourself and provide your own feedback!
