Opening a submission
Go to your class → Analytics → Writing Feedback and click the assignment, or open it from the sidebar Analytics page.
In the Participants tab, each student row shows their Feedback Status (Awaiting review or Published), Rubric Score, AI Used, Word Count, Incidents, Duration and Submission Time.
Click a student to start the review.
Step 1 — AI Usage
The right-hand panel shows how the essay was written:
AI Analysis — how likely it is the text was AI-written (Possible, Likely or Very Likely). Turn on Identify AI Sentences to highlight suspected sentences in the essay.
Typing Analysis — how natural the typing pattern was, time on the document, total words, and how many words were pasted. Press the play button to watch a replay of the student typing.
Chat Usage — how many messages the student sent to the Thought Partner and any incidents. Click View Chat to read the conversation.
Choose Continue without sharing with Student or Acknowledge and share with student to add the AI report to what the student sees.
Warning: AI detection is a probability, not proof. Before acting on a "Very Likely" result, check the typing replay and paste count — a student who types quickly or drafts elsewhere can be flagged.
Step 2 — Comments
Kai drafts inline comments anchored to specific sentences. For each draft, click Comment to keep it or Cancel to remove it, and add your own with Add a comment. Only accepted comments are visible to the student. Click Accept all comments & continue when you're done.
Step 3 — Score
Confirm the grade — review the overall percentage and Kai's feedback for each rubric criterion. Click Edit to change any score or wording, then Next: Publish.
Step 4 — Publish
Confirm & Publish shows who you're publishing to and an Overview of the score, number of inline comments and the AI writing verdict. Click Confirm & Publish, then confirm again in the Publish this feedback? dialog. Once published, the student can see their score and comments and it can't be undone.
Tip: Already-published submissions open in a simpler view with Prompt, AI, Comment and Feedback tabs instead of the four steps.
What the student sees
After publishing, the student's session shows Published with their score. Opening it shows their essay with your comments highlighted, the rubric breakdown with feedback for each criterion, and (if you shared it) the AI scan results.
