Choose how to create it
Click the green + button at the top of Knowt (or the Assessments card on your Home page).
Select Assessment in the left-hand list of the Create menu.
Pick one of the six options below.

Describe & Create — tell Kai the topic and it writes the questions for you.
Create from a PDF, PPT, or Video/Audio — upload a file and Kai builds a multiple choice, true/false or free-response assessment from it.
Create from Scratch — write your own questions for a traditional or writing assessment.
Create using SAT, ACT, or AP library — assign questions straight from our exam question banks.
Create SAT, ACT, or AP Mock Exam — assign a full-length mock exam.
Import from Google Drive — build an assessment from a file in your Drive.
Creating an assessment with AI (Describe & Create)
Under Assessment Type, choose Traditional (MC, TF, & Short Answer) and click Confirm.
In Topic, standard, or objective, type what you want to assess. A simple topic is enough — once you start typing, an Improve this for me button appears that expands your description into a fuller prompt.
Set the Grade Level (Pre-K through Doctorate) — this is required, the field turns red if you skip it — and the Language.
Optionally click Align to Standards to attach up to 3 standards. Filter by country, standard set, subject, grade and strand, or search, then click Add.
Under Question Types, set how many Multiple Choice, True / False and Short Answer questions you want (the default is 8, 2 and 0).
Click Create. Kai generates the questions in a few seconds and opens your new assessment.
Note: The first time you use an AI feature, Knowt asks you to confirm that you want to use AI. Text you enter is sent to third-party AI providers to generate responses, so avoid including sensitive information.
Creating from a file or from scratch
Create from a PDF, PPT, or Video/Audio and Import from Google Drive work the same way, except you upload or pick a file first and Kai uses it as the source for the questions. Create from Scratch takes you straight to the editor, where you add each question yourself — see How to edit assessment questions.
What happens next
Your assessment opens on its view page, where you can Edit the questions, Add to Class, Assign it, or start a Play game. It is also saved in your Materials tab. Nothing is sent to students until you assign it.
