Assigning an assessment
Open the assessment and click Assign in the top right.
Choose Quick Start or Custom Settings, then click Create.
Quick Start
Quick Start uses sensible defaults: you can see students' live progress, the assessment is graded out of 100, and students see their grade as soon as they submit.
For SAT, ACT and AP practice and mock exams, Quick Start doesn't grade out of 100. It shows students' live progress, and students see their grade after they submit.
Custom Settings
Custom Settings adds two more steps.
Start – End Time
Start Date — schedule when students can begin.
End Date — set the deadline.
Allow Late Submissions — toggle on to accept work after the deadline.
Click Next.
Custom Settings
Class — pick the class to assign to. Once a class is selected you can also limit it to specific Sections and Select topic. The topic groups the assignment on your class's Assignments tab (choose + New topic to make one).
Share link to LMS — click Connect to LMS to post the assignment to your learning management system.
Require Log In to complete — turn on so only signed-in students can submit.
Time Limit — choose from 10 to 120 minutes, or leave it Unlimited.
Session Attempts — how many times a student can take it (unlimited by default).
Grade student submissions for this assignment — turn off for an ungraded check-in.
Show grade after… and Show answers after… — choose Student Submits or Due Date (both default to Due Date).
Note: Mock exams from the SAT, ACT and AP libraries have no Grading options. When you assign one, there's no Time Limit, Session Attempts, grade toggle or Show grade after… / Show answers after….
Click Assign. You'll see "Session created successfully" and land on the session's Stats page.
Sharing the assignment
The Stats page has a sharing bar with everything you need to get students in. It's labelled Share to participants, and shows your class as a chip if you picked one:
Copy Link — a join link like www.knowt.com/join/123456.
Show QR — a QR code students can scan.
Connect to LMS — post the assignment to your LMS (Google Classroom is part of Knowt Ultra; Canvas and other LMS integrations come with school site licenses).
The class chip — confirms which class received it.
Students in the class you assigned to will also see it automatically in their class's assignment list (grouped by topic) and on the Assigned page in their sidebar.
Tip: You can change a live session's settings with the Settings button on the Stats page (it opens Edit Session Settings), or stop accepting submissions with End. Ending the session is also what unlocks the session's Analytics tab.
