Starting a game
You can launch Knowt Play from almost anything:
Open an assessment and click Play at the top right.
Open a flashcard set and click Knowt Play in the study modes.
Click the green + button → Play to build a game from a topic, a PDF/PPT/video, a live recording, Google Drive, or from scratch. (These options create an assessment first, which you can then play.)
Click the Play card on your Home page.
The lobby
The lobby is your host screen. On the left, choose a game mode and its settings; on the right, students see how to join:
Join the game — students go to www.knowt.com/join and enter the 6-digit code (or scan the QR code).
Participants — students appear here as they join. Click the ✕ next to a name to remove someone who shouldn't be there.
Change file — swap the material without leaving the lobby.
Account required to join — off by default, so students can join as guests with just the code. Turn it on if you want every player signed in (so results attach to their Knowt account).

Game modes
See Knowt Play game modes and settings for how each mode plays. In short: Classic (everyone answers each question), Race (first to finish all questions), Clash (in-person team board game), Blitz (most correct answers in a set time) and Survival (wrong answer knocks you out).
Note: If your game comes from an assessment, the question types can't be changed in the lobby — exit and edit the assessment instead.
Running the game
Click Start game. In Classic mode the host screen shows the question, the answer choices and a countdown; students see only the coloured answer tiles, so they need to look at your screen. When time runs out (or everyone has answered), the screen shows how many students picked each option with the correct answer highlighted. Press Enter or click Next to continue.
Use the icons at the top right to mute sounds, go fullscreen or open settings, and End game to stop early. Scores up to that point are kept.
Results
At the end you'll see a podium with the winners, their points and the coins they earned (students earn Knowt coins for placing). From here you can Play again, View stats or go Back to lobby.
View stats opens the game's stats page (also available later under Analytics): the mode and completion time, View Assessment and Play again buttons, and three tabs — Participants (each student's per-question dots, score, correctness, rank and points), Questions and Analytics.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to reach out to our team by clicking Help in the bottom-left corner of Knowt and choosing Contact Support.
